About WonderWaffles
Tucked away in the heart of Amsterdam’s Jordaan district, WonderWaffles is a little slice of heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth. Every Saturday, the scent of freshly baked stroopwafels drifts through the Lindengracht Market — warm, buttery, and impossible to resist.
The story of WonderWaffles began back in 2009, born from something simple: a craving for a stroopwafel. Wandering through the city, the founder longed for a warm, freshly baked waffle — not the packaged kind, but one made right before your eyes, golden and soft with smooth syrup inside. After finally finding one, the first bite was a disappointment; the taste didn’t live up to the delicious waffle imagined in that moment of craving. That spark of frustration turned into inspiration: if no one was making them the way they should be, someone had to do it better.
And so, WonderWaffles was born — starting as a small stroopwafel stand at the Lindengracht Market, where fresh, golden waffles quickly became a local favorite. What began as one humble stall soon grew into much more. First came freshly brewed coffee and tea — the perfect companions to a warm waffle. Then came poffertjes, those fluffy little Dutch pancakes dusted with powdered sugar, made with the same care and charm.
Here, stroopwafels are still made the traditional way — by hand, right in front of you. The dough is pressed on hot irons, sliced while still warm, and filled with rich, golden syrup. Each bite has that perfect mix of crispy edges and gooey sweetness — a taste of nostalgia, made modern.
More than just a market stall, WonderWaffles has become a symbol of Dutch craftsmanship and joy, where tradition meets imagination. Whether you’re a curious traveler or a local wandering the Jordaan on a Saturday morning, this little stand is guaranteed to warm your heart — and your hands — with every bite.
